A walk through the Tempe shop where every order is produced: the multi-head embroidery machines, the digitizing station, the screen printing presses and the showroom. Because nothing leaves the building, the proof you approve is exactly what comes off the machine, and reorders sew from the same saved stitch file.

What our custom embroidery services include

Embroidery is a different trade from printing. These are the specific services we provide, and what each one is for.

Logo digitizing

Your artwork converted into a stitch file that tells the machine every needle movement, thread color and underlay. Done in-house so we can adjust density and pull compensation for the exact fabric you chose. Included with your order; the file is yours for reorders.

How digitizing works

Flat embroidery

Standard thread-on-fabric embroidery for logos, text and multi-color marks on polos, shirts, jackets, bags and caps. The most versatile and most durable decoration method we offer.

Embroidered polos

3D puff embroidery

Foam placed under the thread so the design stands up off the cap. Best for bold lettering, initials and simple shapes on structured hats; not suited to fine detail or soft garments.

Embroidered hats

Patches

Embroidered, woven and leatherette patches made to your logo, then sewn onto garments and caps or supplied loose with iron-on or hook-and-loop backing for uniforms, clubs and brands.

Custom patches

Names, numbers and monograms

Individual personalization on uniforms, jackets, robes and gifts, from a single name on a staff polo to a full roster of player names on team jackets.

Athletic wear

Uniform and reorder programs

Stitch files, thread colors and placements saved per customer, so a new hire's polo or a second-season reorder matches the first run without new setup.

Corporate programs

Custom embroidery vs screen printing vs DTF

We run all three under one roof, so this recommendation is about your garment and artwork, not about which machine we own.

Choose embroidery when

  • The garment is a polo, dress shirt, jacket, fleece, cap or bag
  • It will be washed constantly: uniforms, restaurant and medical staff
  • The logo needs to read as professional or premium
  • You want a program that reorders identically for years

Choose print when

  • The artwork is a photo, gradient or has very fine text
  • The garment is a lightweight tee or performance mesh that puckers under stitching
  • The design is large, like a full back or full front
  • The run is large and cost per piece is the priority

How custom embroidery services are priced

Embroidery is priced per piece by stitch count, number of locations and quantity, plus the garment. There is no minimum, and no separate digitizing fee on standard logos.

Stitch count

A left-chest logo runs roughly 4,000 to 8,000 stitches; a cap front 6,000 to 10,000; a full back can exceed 50,000. More stitches, more machine time.

Locations

Left chest only is the base price. Adding a sleeve, back yoke, or a name on the right chest adds a second run through the machine.

Quantity

Setup is spread across the run, so per-piece pricing improves at 12, again at 24, and keeps dropping into the hundreds.

Garment

The blank is the largest part of most orders. A Port Authority polo and a Nike polo embroider identically but do not cost the same.

Example from our catalogDecorated starting priceWhat is included
Port Authority Snapback Five Panel Rope Cap (C962)From $16.35 embroideredCap, front-panel logo embroidery, digitizing, digital proof
Richardson Five-Panel Classic Rope Cap (258)From $20.25 embroideredCap, front-panel logo embroidery, digitizing, digital proof
Imperial Habanero Performance Rope Cap (6054)From $27.75 embroideredPremium performance cap, front-panel logo embroidery, digitizing, proof

Starting prices are single-piece catalog prices for a standard left-chest or cap-front logo and drop with quantity. Polo, jacket and bag pricing depends on the blank; send your logo, garment and quantity through the quote form for an exact number, usually the same business day.

Custom embroidery digitizing services

Digitizing is the step most embroidery problems trace back to. A stitch file made for a stiff cap will pucker on a pique polo; a file with the wrong underlay will let the fabric show through white thread; text digitized too small turns into a blob. We digitize in-house, for the specific garment you ordered, and we keep the file.

What we need from you

A vector file (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) is ideal. A clean JPG or PNG works for most logos; we redraw what we have to. Tell us the garment and the finished size you want.

What you get back

A digital proof showing the stitched logo on the actual garment color, with size, placement and thread colors matched to Madeira or Isacord numbers. Nothing sews until you approve it.

Small text and fine detail

Thread has a minimum: lettering below about 0.2 inches tall and lines thinner than a single stitch column will not hold. We will tell you on the proof and suggest a patch or DTF if the art needs it.

Already have a DST or EMB file?

Send it. We test-sew on the garment fabric and adjust density if needed rather than re-digitizing from scratch.

Embroidery placement and logo size guide

The sizes below are the industry standards we start from on the proof. Reference them when you brief your designer.

Bags3 to 6 in wideTotes, backpacks, duffels, coolersFront pocket or main panel; depends on the bag's construction

Fabrics that embroider well, and what to do with the rest

  • Pique and jersey polos, oxford and twill shirts: ideal
  • Fleece, sweatshirt fleece, soft shells, canvas work jackets: ideal
  • Structured caps and beanies: ideal, with cap-specific digitizing
  • Twill totes, polyester backpacks, coolers: good, placement limited by seams and pockets
  • Lightweight tees and tri-blends: small logos only; larger art puckers, so we recommend DTF
  • Performance mesh and very thin polyester: DTF or a patch holds better
  • Waterproof shells: needle holes compromise the membrane; use a patch or heat-applied transfer
  • Terry towels and robes: embroider well with a topping film; ask for it

How a custom embroidery order works

Most orders follow the same five steps. Tell us the in-hands date up front and we schedule backward from it.

  1. Request a quote

Send quantity, garment idea, sizes and your logo through the quote form or call the shop. You get a price and blank recommendation, usually the same day.

  2. Digitizing

We convert the logo to a stitch file for your specific fabric and match thread colors to your brand.

  3. Proof approval

A digital mockup on the actual garment: placement, size, colors. Nothing sews until you sign off.

  4. Production in Tempe

Embroidered on our own machines at 1715 W 4th St, typically 7 to 14 business days after proof approval and blank arrival. Rush available.

  5. Pickup, delivery or shipping

Pick up at the showroom, have larger Valley orders delivered, or ship anywhere in the U.S. Reorders run from the saved file.

Watch the process

From the digitized file on screen to the finished garment coming off the hoop. If you are comparing embroidery shops, this is what in-house production looks like; ask any other vendor to show you theirs.

Custom embroidery services: frequently asked questions

What are custom embroidery services?

Custom embroidery services take your logo or design, convert it into a stitch file (digitizing), and sew it in thread onto garments and accessories such as polos, hats, jackets, shirts and bags. At Precision Graphics the service includes digitizing, a digital proof, thread color matching, in-house production in Tempe and file storage for reorders.

Is there a minimum order for custom embroidery?

No. Embroidery has no minimum at Precision Graphics; a single polo or cap is a normal order. Per-piece pricing improves at 12 pieces and again at 24 or more because setup is spread across the run.

How much does custom embroidery cost?

Embroidery is priced per piece by stitch count, number of locations and quantity, plus the garment. As a reference, blank rope caps in our catalog start at $16.35 embroidered with a front-panel logo, and a standard left-chest logo on a polo is priced similarly on top of the shirt. Send your logo, garment and quantity for an exact quote, usually returned the same business day.

Do you charge for digitizing?

Standard logo digitizing is included with your order. Very large or complex designs, such as a full back or a detailed illustration, may carry a one-time digitizing charge that we quote before starting. The stitch file is kept on record for reorders at no additional charge.

What file format do you need for my logo?

A vector file (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) gives the cleanest digitizing. A high-resolution JPG or PNG works for most logos; our art department redraws what it needs to. If you already have a DST or EMB stitch file, send it and we will test-sew it on your garment.

How long does custom embroidery take?

Standard production is 7 to 14 business days after proof approval and blank arrival. Rush options are available for event and launch dates; call 480-967-7015 with your in-hands date and we will confirm what is possible.

Can I bring my own garments for embroidery?

In most cases, yes. Bring a sample to the Tempe shop so we can confirm the fabric embroiders well and the placement works around seams and pockets. Customer-supplied garments are decorated at your risk, since we cannot replace a piece we did not source.

What is the difference between embroidery and screen printing?

Embroidery sews the design in thread; it is raised, textured and the most durable decoration, and it suits polos, jackets, caps and bags. Screen printing pushes ink through a stencil onto the fabric; it is flat, handles bold spot-color art at low cost per piece, and suits tees and hoodies in larger runs. We run both in-house and recommend based on your garment and artwork.

Can you embroider small text or a detailed logo?

Thread has a physical minimum: lettering below about 0.2 inches tall and lines thinner than a single stitch column will not hold. On the proof we will show you what needs to be simplified, enlarged or moved to a patch or DTF transfer so the finished piece reads cleanly.

Where can I find custom embroidery services near me in the Phoenix area?

Precision Graphics is at 1715 W 4th St in Tempe, near Priest Dr and the Loop 202, roughly 15 minutes from Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale and Sky Harbor. The showroom is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Orders can also be handled entirely by email with delivery across the Valley or shipping anywhere in the U.S.
